Paris Bakery Workers Must Be Paid Immediately – Labour Youth

Labour Youth National Chairperson, Ciarán Garrett, has called for the staff and former workers of the Paris Bakery to be paid immediately.  Workers have gone unpaid for several months now, due to a legal loophole arising from the manner in which the Paris Bakery ceased trading.

Commenting today ahead of joining the ongoing protest, Garrett said: “This has gone on for too long. For the employers to simply brush off their responsibility to staff due to a legal loophole is simply not acceptable. The staff worked the hours, they must be paid.”

“I welcome the involvement of Minister Joan Burton and Deputy Joe Costello in highlighting this issue and assisting the former staff with welfare payment. But the unpaid wages must be addressed immediately.”

“Labour Youth stands with the former workers at the Paris Bakery. We condemn employers who ignore their responsibility to pay their workers.  We support the submission to the Government by the Irish Congress of Trade Unions, which offers a real solution to the legal loophole that now exists. I call on the Coalition to act immediately to prevent similar situations occurring again.”

“However, the immediate concern is to ensure the workers are paid what they are due immediately.  Labour Youth stands with these workers and will continue to lobby and campaign on their behalf to ensure they are paid.”
