JUSTICE FOR THE GREYHOUND WORKERS NOW – LABOUR YOUTH

Labour Youth have reiterated demands that Greyhound management drop wage cut demands and end the lock out of their workers, and urge members of the public to show their support for the workers this evening.

Speaking ahead of the SIPTU-organised march in support of the workers, now locked out of their place of work for twelve weeks, Labour Youth National Chairperson Ciarán Garrett said: “It’s unbelievable that this farce has continued for this long.  The workers are completely right to reject the unreasonable, insulting and deeply unjust wage cut demands. We in Labour Youth and the Labour Party support the workers completely.”

Garrett continued: “That this lock out has gone on for so long is deeply worrying. It is not acceptable for employers to lock their workers out and refuse to pay them their wages. The duration of this dispute is only prolonging the difficulty for the workers and their families.”

“Labour Youth will join other Labour Party members in supporting the SIPTU march this evening. We urge everyone to come and show their support this evening. Let’s send the Buckley brothers a clear message: Pay your workers and let them get on with their jobs!

“I want to express Labour Youth’s support for the two emergency motions put forward by Labour Party councillors on Dublin City Council.  It’s important that these questions are asked at the highest level of local government in Dublin and that our elected representatives ensure that Dublin has good and proper waste disposal services, and that those employed to do so are treated with the respect and dignity that every worker is entitled to.  We will support the workers until they return to work.”
